Russian Official called Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria a terrorist attack

Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin called Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria a terrorist attack and noted that the SVR headquarters has additional information about this.

“I am sure that the headquarters of the Foreign Intelligence Service already has additional information, reactions from various countries to what happened, to this ugly, criminal step in relation to the sovereign state of Iran, and also in relation to the sovereign state of Syria, on the territory of which this terrorist act was committed,” Naryshkin told reporters after a meeting of the boards of the SVR and the KGB of Belarus.

On Monday evening, the Syrian Ministry of Defense reported an Israeli airstrike on the building of the Iranian Consulate General in the Syrian capital Damascus.

The consulate building also housed the residence of the Iranian Ambassador to the Syrian Arab Republic, Hossein Akbari – the latter was not injured during the attack. According to a statement by the Syrian defense ministry, the consulate building was completely destroyed as a result of a missile attack.
