US military admits to very heavy SDF losses due to ISIS counterattack in east Syria

In a rare move, a United States military official, speaking through Fox News, admitted to very heavy losses among the ranks of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) during a recent battle with ISIS in eastern Syria.

Reported via the Twitter account for Fox News’ Pentagon correspondent Lucas Tomlinson, the US military official conceded some eighty (80) “US-backed Syrian fighters” (i.e. SDF fighters) were killed during a “recent counterattack by ISIS”.

The ISIS “counterattack” referred to by the US military source was in fact more of a counter-offensive that took place along the eastern shore of the Euphrates River, during which time the terrorist group temporarily recaptured a town it had lost over one year ago – before being driven out by US airstrikes – and overran at least two SDF forward bases near Syria’s Al-Omar oilfields, sacking them before retreating – again only due to the intervention of US warplanes.

According to activist sources and monitor groups (such as the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights), the recent ISIS counterattack resulted in over 90 SDF deaths. In its own statement, the terrorist group claimed killing at least 60 US-backed fighters and capturing another thirty (their fate is unknown).

US-backed forces in Syria are currently engaged in a deadlocked battle against ISIS for control of the jihadist militia’s last stronghold, the town of Hajin, located along the eastern shore of the Euphrates River.
