Nasib Passageway at Syria-Jordan Border Officially Reopened

A key border-crossing in Southern Syria called Nasib connecting Dara’a province to Jordan was reopened officially after three years of closure due to the terrorists’ presence in the region, a media outlet reported on Monday.

The Arabic-language al-Mayadeen TV Channel reported that Nasib border-crossing between Syria and Jordan was officially reopened after 3 years of closure.

In the meantime, Amoun news website reported that after a new agreement between Damascus and Amman on Sunday, the Nasib border-crossing kicked off operation today.

It further added that several vehicles crossed border and entered Syria from Jordan via the Nasib passageway.

Differences between Damascus and Amman were reported in the recent days over reopening of the border-crossing.

Massdar news reported on Sunday that prominent Jordanian politician Leith Shubeilat called on the government of King Abdullah II to apologize to Syria and restore relations with Damascus.

In a letter to Prime Minister Omar Al-Razzaz via his Facebook page, Shubeilat stated that Jordan should apologize to Syria for turning their government into a foe and cutting ties with them.

“You should apologize on behalf of all of us, those who did not stop our previous government from being turned into an arch foe of Syria; apologize for what your predecessors have done, and especially the opposition MOC [Military Operation Center] which united Western countries, Israelis and the Persian Gulf countries in Jordan with the aim of overthrowing Syrian authorities,” Shubeilat stated.

Shubeilat also reminded Al-Razzaz of his father who also held high-ranking posts in Jordan.

“Given the legacy of your father, postponing even longer the restoration of relations with Syria is just a shame for you,” Shubeilat noted, arguing that the Syrian people are closer to those in Jordan than the Arabs of the Persian Gulf.

Shubeilat has been imprisoned by the Jordanian authorities on a number of occasions in the past, as he has long opposed the current government in Amman.
