Idlib must eventually return to the Syrian state’s control – Moscow

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said that Idlib will inevitably return to the Syrian state.

Speaking to Sputnik on Monday, Vershinin said that Idleb in the end must ‘get back under the control of the Syrian state’, pointing out that the agreement on Idleb, which was reached in Sochi, is being implemented and the atmosphere has changed for the better.

He added that the agreement generally prepared conditions to stimulate the political process, indicating a possibility to reduce the suffering of citizens in Syria and mainly in Idlib where terrorists maintain a stranglehold on the civilian population, creating intolerable conditions for them.

The Russian diplomat said Moscow considers the task of removing heavy weapons and extremist groups from Idleb “possible”, adding that the separation of terrorists and “opposition” is a complex issue.

He noted that the Turkish side is working in this direction under the Sochi agreement on Idleb , and Moscow wants to see good results in this regard.
