China establishes longest sea bridge in world (video)

China ‘s longest sea bridge, linking Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai City in Guangdong Province, opened Tuesday in southern China with a 55-kilometer long reach.

The opening ceremony was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam and Chinese State Councilor Han Zhen.

The traffic movement on the bridge will open on Wednesday and the bridge will reduce travel hours between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from 3 hours to 30 minutes.

According to preliminary data, by 2030, the bridge will serve daily more than 29,000 vehicles and more than 120 thousand passengers.

The bridge will also contribute to economic integration between the three cities in the Pearl River Delta, as well as promoting tourism in Hong Kong and Macao.

There will be 24-hour buses to transport inter-city travelers using this bridge.

The bridge weighs more than 400,000 tons, and is capable to resist strong hurricanes with winds of more than 300 km per hour, as well as earthquakes of up to 8 degrees, with a service span of 120 years.
