Map update: Syrian Forces initiate new operation towards Idlib countryside

The government troops – assisted by allied forces – have opened new axis in the southern countryside of Aleppo, aiming to advance west, towards Idlib’s administrative borders.

On Sunday afternoon, the Syrian Army was able to regain control over ‘Al-Khala’, ‘Ubaisan’ hamlets and the hilltop of ‘Sawwan’ from Hay’at Tahrir Alsham group, located on the western side of the Hama-Aleppo highway.

18 kilometers south of the strategic town of Khanaser, the Syrian troops put its first foothold since the so-called ‘Free Syrian Army’ took control this area in 2013.

What’s more, 2 kilometers to the west of Khanaser, the army has had fire-control over Hajarah kabirah and Hajarah Saghirah, until the HTS recently managed to infiltrate, that forced the engineering units to retreat.
