Lionel Messi Named MLS MVP After Stellar Season with Inter Miami

On Friday, Lionel Messi was honored as Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Most Valuable Player, following his exceptional performance that led Inter Miami to a historic regular season.
The Argentine icon received the accolade after propelling Miami to its highest-ever regular season points total, securing the club its first Supporters’ Shield.
Despite being 37 years old, Messi dominated the league, leading with 36 goal contributions — 20 goals and 16 assists — during the regular season.
This MVP award comes even though Messi faced an injury-plagued year, managing only 19 appearances.
However, the season ended on a disappointing note for Miami and Messi, as the team was unexpectedly defeated in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs.
Messi becomes the 10th South American and the fifth Argentine to win the MVP award, joining the ranks of Luciano Acosta, Diego Valeri, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, and Christian Gomez.
