Russian’s defense ministry announced on Monday that it had downed 59 Ukrainian drones overnight, with the majority being intercepted in border regions.

“During the past night, attempts by the Kyiv regime to carry out terrorist UAV attacks against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation were thwarted,” the ministry stated in a release.

The ministry added that 59 Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed by air defense systems. Most of the drones were downed across three regions bordering Ukraine: 45 in Bryansk, six in Kursk, and three in Belgorod. Three drones were intercepted in the Tula region, south of the capital, while two others were downed over the Moscow region.

Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, reported that one drone was destroyed over the Ramenskoye district without causing casualties or damage. The second was located in the Pavlovo-Posad district, he said on Telegram.

Moscow frequently announces the destruction of Ukrainian drones, but the number is usually lower than Monday’s figure. Kyiv claims that it carries out such attacks, often targeting energy infrastructure, in response to Russian bombardment of its territory.
