Iran sent ballistic missiles to Russia, US officials tell EU

Iran has sent a couple of hundred ballistic missiles to Russia, according to media reports on Friday, which cited diplomats as saying that they believe Tehran will keep up the flow of weapons to Moscow in a bid to help its war in Ukraine.

An unnamed US official told the Wall Street Journal that the missiles “have finally been delivered.”

The latest shipment includes a couple of hundred of the short-range ballistic missiles, Western officials told WSJ.

US officials have previously publicized Russia’s procurement of drones from Iran as well as other ammunition and weapons from North Korea. Sanctions on Russia in the aftermath of its invasion of Ukraine have put a dent in Vladimir Putin’s ability to replenish depleted stockpiles of weapons.

According to Bloomberg, the US informed its allies of the ballistic missile shipment. Washington and the EU are expected to unveil a new batch of sanctions on Iran for this.
