The United States was the only nation to abstain from voting on the United Nations Security Council resolution, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The UnitedNations Security Council passed a resolution on Monday, which demanded an immediate ceasefire between “Israel” and the Palestinian Resistance. The resolution also demanded an immediate and unconditional release of all captives.

The UnitedStates abstained from the vote, while the remaining 14 council members voted in favor of the resolution, which was proposed by the 10 elected members of the body: Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, South Korea and Switzerland.

The US had been averse to the word ceasefire during the nearly six-month Israeli war on Gaza and had used its veto power to shield its ally, “Israel”, which has killed at least 32,333 Palestinians and injured 74,694 others
