Militants attempt to attack the Russian airbase in western Syria

Militants belong to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) former Nusra Front attempted this morning to attack the Russian airbase of Hmeimim in western Syria using dozen of long range missiles.
According to sources, militants launched dozen of grad missiles in attempt to target the vicinity of the Hmeimim airbase which is located in Latakia countryside.
Sources added that missiles fell on several towns in the surroundings of the airbase including Sharasher and Hweiz villages where 1 civilian was killed and couple others injured.
In recent weeks, there has been a surge in attacks from militants on Latakia province in attempt to hit the Russian base there.
Russia has been piling pressure on Turkey to start an operation against rebel-held areas after Ankara’s failure to get militants linked to al-Qaeda out of a buffer zone agreed between the two countries.
