Iran's first official comment on Zarif's resignation

The deputy spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, Abbas Mousavi, told the Sputnik news agency on Monday that Foreign Ministry officials had no knowledge of the resignation of Mohammad Javad Zarif.

“Foreign Ministry officials have no knowledge of the resignation,” Mousavi said. Stressing that “Zarif’s account on Instagram is not fake”.

Moussaoui pointed out that Zarif had announced his resignation via his account on Instagram and the reasons remain unknown.

“Many thanks for the generosity of the dear and brave people of Iran and its authorities over the past 67 months. I sincerely apologise for the inability to continue serving and for all the shortcomings during my service.” Zarif wrote on his Instagram page.
