Eight-storey residential building collapses in Istanbul (VIDEO)

Emergency service workers sifted through the rubble of an eight-storey building which collapsed in Maltepe, a district in the suburbs of Istanbul, on Wednesday.

Some residents have been trapped inside the wreckage, but officials haven not provided the exact number of people under the rubble.

According to local media reports, at least one person was killed and four more were injured. Rescue teams are searching for several others believed to be trapped under the rubble.

According to local media, there were 12 apartments in the building. An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the collapse.
