Arms race : Russian military develops its nuclear capabilities
On December 5, General Valery Girasimov, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, informed foreign military attaches that Russian military is increasing the capabilities of its nuclear forces.
Russia has to do so in response to the United States developing its anti-missile defense system.
In response, Russia is developing strategic missile forces and raising its missile capabilities to penetrate the missile-hunting networks.
For example, Russia’s strategic missile forces were equipped with a new type of missile, “the Yars.”
Russian military has started industrial production of “Avangard” missile systems equipped with a very fast destructive head that is impossible to intercept.
At the same time, Russia is developing the capabilities of its air defense forces.
The Chief of Staff revealed that the proportion of modern weapons in the Russian armed forces has amounted to 61.5%.
