US, French troops carry out archaeological excavations in Syria’s Raqqa

Activists on social media published pictures showing US, French troops excavating for traces in several locations in the northern province of Raqqa.

The pictures show a drilling machinery – guarded by Coalition soldiers – digging in an ancient hilltop of the Raqqa province, that is controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militias.

Activists confirmed that US and French forces began large-scale excavations in the archaeological hills surrounding the town of Mansoura in the western Raqqa countryside.

The archaeological sites in Al-Raqqah are located on the banks of the Euphrates River and represent the cradle of Syrian civilization.
