Syria map update: Syrian Army makes its way towards the Iraqi borders

The Syrian troops and allied forces – propelled by the Russian air power -are steadily advance deep inside the oil-rich province of Deir Ezzor, gaining more territories from the Islamic state.

Today afternoon, units of the pro-government factions liberated key site near the T2 oil-pumping station, following days-long clashes.

With this advancement, the Syrian Army is within 70 km away from the imperative bordering city of Al-bukamal, which seen as another stronghold for the extremist organisation.

Al-bukamal (Abu Kamal) is an economically prosperous farming region with cattle-breeding, cereals, and cotton crops. It is also home to the historical site Dura-Europos and the ancient kingdom of Mari.
