Syria map update: Kurds tighten the noose around ISIS in Raqqa

Backed by the US-led coalition air support, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militants have begun their final phase in the battle of Al-Raqqa city against the Islamic state.

According to the Syrian Observatory, ISIS still in charge of several districts in downtown Raqqa city;  the national hospital, the stadium and parts of Al-Bared district.

On Sunday, the SDF has announced the beginning of their last military operation to “liberate” ISIS-held areas inside the embattled city.

Yesterday, a video shared by SDF media, shows about 275 Syrian ISIS militants being surrendered to the Kurdish militia, while 200-300 militants mostly of foreign origin remain in the city.
