Deir Ezzor Update: Syrian forces liberate strategic hilltops overlooking the Airbase

The parameters of the Deir Ezzor Airbase have been further secured as the Syrian Army managed today to impose full control over the strategic Thardah hilltops.

According to a military source, the Syrian troops – backed by Russian airstrikes – continue to hunt down ISIS militants who fled the battlefield to their bastion of al-Mayadeen to the south.

Seizing Thardeh Mountains will reactivate the Airbase which has been out of service for a while. This will further propel the Syrian ground forces in their fight against ISIS.

The Islamic State militants took over the hilltops on September 2016 after the US-coalition pounded the government forces; thus paving the way for ISIS jihadists to storm the area.
