New York’s Mayor Confirms Progress in Hunt for Manhattan Gunman

New York’s Mayor Eric Adams assured the public that the search for the Manhattan gunman, believed to have killed a top health insurance executive, is “on the right track” as the investigation stretched into its third day on Friday.

Investigators made a significant breakthrough on Thursday, releasing the first full-face photo of the suspect without the mask worn during Wednesday’s bold daylight shooting.

“This individual was fully masked, and through traditional police work, we obtained the image you now see,” Mayor Adams told Spectrum News.

Detectives revealed that the smiling suspect’s photo was captured at a youth hostel where he apparently stayed before the shooting, with media speculating he lowered his mask to flirt with a receptionist.

The gunman fired multiple shots at Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare — one of the nation’s largest health insurers — in front of witnesses. The audacious attack was recorded by a surveillance camera and has been viewed by millions.

Thompson was attending an investor conference in Midtown when the incident occurred.

Authorities have yet to determine a motive for the shooting and have not confirmed a New York Times report stating that the words “delay” and “deny” — commonly associated with insurance claim rejections — were inscribed on shell casings found at the scene.

Video footage shows Thompson walking on the sidewalk outside the New York Hilton Midtown when a hooded man, with his lower face covered, approaches from behind and shoots the 50-year-old executive, who then collapses to the ground.

The suspect was seen fleeing on foot before getting on a bicycle, initially reported by police as possibly being a rented e-bike, heading towards Central Park.
