Video ; Russian military official wounded in Moscow car blast

A Russian military official was wounded in a car blast in Moscow on Wednesday morning that authorities have said was an attempted murder, the state-run TASS news agency reported.

Several Russian military and pro-Kremlin public figures have been targeted in car bombings since Moscow launched its offensive on Ukraine in February 2022.

Citing a figure in law enforcement, the TASS news agency reported that Andrei Torgashov, who it identified as a “serviceman and participant in the special military operation” in Ukraine, and his wife were wounded in the blast.

Torgashov is believed to have had a foot torn off while his wife suffered shrapnel wounds, TASS reported.

“It was preliminarily established that in a car park in the north of the capital an unidentified object, which was placed in a car, detonated,” Irina Volk, spokeswoman for Russia’s interior ministry, said in a statement on Telegram.

“As a result, two people were wounded. The victims were taken to a medical facility by ambulance,” she added.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said it had opened a criminal case into the blast.

Images showed a blown-out silver SUV parked in a residential courtyard, the windows, doors and front of the car destroyed by the blast.

TASS said investigators were considering the possibility that Torgashov was targeted because of his position in Russia’s military.

It did not state his specific role.
