Syrian Army enters, captures first buildings in Khan Sheykhun
Forward units of the Syrian Army have entered into and even captured some buildings within the strategic city of Khan Sheykhun – a major militant stronghold and a gateway to Idlib province.
According to reports, including from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the Syrian Army has entered the city from the northwestern direction – as was expected – after storming insurgent checkpoints on its periphery.
A mixed band of militant groups, including Turkish-backed fighters as well as Al-Qaeda-linked jihadists are reported to be fighting for Khan Sheykhun. Whether it is part of a rear-guard strategy or a genuine attempt to hold the city is yet to be seen.
The Syrian Army’s entry into Khan Sheykhun marks the first time since 2014 that government forces have had a presence in the city.
Details on military developments inside Khan Sheykhun are still limited at the current time. More information will be released by Muraselon News as the situation becomes better known via exclusive sources.
