An elite special forces unit whose origins are found in Syrian Air Force Intelligence has officially been restructured into the Syrian Army proper.
According to official Syrian military sources, the well-known special forces unit known as the Tiger Forces Division has become part of the Syrian Army – its new designation, the 25th Counter-Terrorism Division.
Despite the service branch change and renaming, the troops will continue to perform the combat role which it has always performed as a storming force, or shock formation, that spearheads major military operations.
The exact reason for the restructuring remains unknown, thought perhaps it can be seen as a logical progression for the Tiger troops to evolve into an official Syrian Army unit; after all, it is with the Syrian Army that this special forces formation has always served with in operations dating back to at least 2014.
The Tiger troops Division, or rather now the 25th Counter-Terrorism Division, has a virtually flawless combat record. Major offensives led by it have always resulted in government victory, be it in Aleppo, Hama, Idlib, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, Damascus, Daraa or Quneitra.
