Yemeni forces capture one of most prominent al-Qaeda leaders in Yemen
The Saudi-backed Yemeni forces in Taiz region announced arresting of one of most prominent al-Qaeda leaders in Yemen in a special operation on Saturday.
Bilal Ali Muhammad al-Waf was arrested in Habshi mountain in Taiz countryside in a special operation by the Yemeni special forces backed by the Saudi coalition.
Al-Wafi is a key member of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), and has helped to execute at least one of the group’s major attacks––the 2012 bombing of a Yemeni military parade that killed more than 100 soldiers.
Wafi was born in sometime between 1986 and 1989 in Yemen’s Taiz Governorate, where he still resides. He became involved with AQAP sometime before 2012.
He was designated as a terrorist by the United States and six Gulf countries in October 2017.
