Russian New Stealth Bomber Features Revealed

A source with knowledge told the media that the features and specifications of the future stealth bomber had been approved. Contracts for the production of aircraft models were also signed.

Tupolev Aerospace Company is building the new strategic bomber, which will replace its predecessor Tu-160, Tu-95 and Tu-M3.

According to official sources, the new strategic stealth bomber is designed to avoid detection using a variety of technologies, a design which get rid of the tail at the back. The speed of the bomber isn’t expected to exceed supersonic speeds. The new bomber will carry more weapons than the Tu-160 bomber.

Alexander Konyukhov, General Director at Tupolev, said that the first model of the future bomber would be released from the plant in 2021-2022.

• Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said that the new bomber is expected to be ready for a first flight in 2025-2026, while the production of the operational models should begin in 2028-2026, stressing that the future bomber should carry more weapons and be hard to detect enough to take off from any airport.
