Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said on Friday that Israel must stop arbitrary strikes against Syria.
“With regard to the latest Israeli attacks, we have stated that such arbitrary attacks on sovereign Syrian territory should be stopped and excluded,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said in an interview with Russian media.
Vershinin added: “Any attacks additionally worsen the situation, No one’s actions in Syria can go beyond the fight against terrorists.”
Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Syria against what it says are Iranian military targets and advanced arms deliveries to Hezbollah in Lebanon, in turn, Russia has announced new security measures, which included beefing up Syria’s anti-aircraft defenses.
On 11 January, Syria announced that air defenses had thwarted an Israeli air strike on southeast Damascus, the strike caused material damage to one of the warehouses at Damascus International Airport.
