Syria’s Deir Ezzor Airbase back in service after 12 months.

According to military sources, The strategic military airfield of Deir Ezzor has been re-activated after a year since Islamic state jihadists took the nearby Thurdah mountain in mid 2016.

The military base is viewed as a precious asset for the Syrian army as it presses its campaign against the ultraconservative group of ISIS in Deir Ezzor province.

Earlier today, The government forces have crossed through the Euphrates river near the recently cleared island of Huaijat Sakr, southeast the city.

The Syrian army and U.S.-backed militias are fighting separate offensives against Islamic State in the province, the jihadist group’s last major stronghold in Syria.
