Up to 600 Islamic State militants and their families who have been evacuated from enclave on the Syria-Lebanon borders remain in the government-held areas after their convoy was blocked by the US-led coalition.

The evacuees – half of them are battle-hardened militants – have surrendered their last pocket after fierce battles with the Syrian Army and Lebanon’s Hezbollah group.

Those have been granted safe passage to the ISIS-controlled areas in eastern Syria.

However, the convoy didn’t make it eastward and remained stuck in government-held areas after the US-led, anti-ISIS coalition conducted airstrikes to block the convoy.
