Deir Ezzor Map Update: Syrian Army makes fresh gains in former ISIS stronghold

The Syrian Armed Forces continue fight the Islamic State in the eastern city of Deir Ezzor, pressing on the terror group from different axes.

Today, the government troops expanded it control to the north of Ayash town located in the northwestern flanks of the city, liberating several smaller towns and hamlets located along the western bank of the Euphrates River.

In the meantime, the town of Jafrah situated to the north of the city’s airbase has fallen to the Syrian Army after fierce battles with the terrorist organization.

By further securing the parameters of the airbase, the Syrian Army works to make the airfield operational again, in order to be used as a launch-pad for airstrikes against ISIS.

Field reports had it that the Syrian forces are now 25 km from the city of Mayaden, which is considered one of the remaining ISIS strongholds in the oil-rich province.
