BREAKING: Syrian Army storms the strategic Sakr island on Euphrates river
The government troops – spearheaded by the elite Tiger Forces – continue marching on in the last Islamic state’s-held parts of the eastern city of Deir Ezzor, targeting their positions.
After installing water bridges linking Huaijat Sakr island to the southern suburbs of Deir Ezzor, the Army managed to cross inside the island, engaging with ISIS militias at the meantime.
The Sakr island is seen as one of the largest headquarters for the ultraconservative group of ISIL, recapturing it would give more fluency for the combat forces to launch another operations towards the heart of the embattled city.
On the northern front-line of the province, The Army earlier managed to drive out ISIS from several towns to the north of Ayash, all situated along the western bank of the Euphrates.
